I'd just like to point out a few things!
1=Most(good) punk/emo/ska/goth is actually Indie music; indie meaning independant music. Shite like the Strokes, Blink 182, Cradle Of Filth - anything alternative is Indie (Alternative being the American term for Indie).
2=Indie music is not just Britpop. In fact Britpop was just Indie crossing over to mainstream.
3=Only intellectuals can appreciate good independant music. We recognise good music, informed lyrics and more sophisticated dynamics.
4=Music played only through a distortion pedal is bollocks, unless however it is: The Pixies, Jesus and Mary Chain, or My Bloody Valentine, etc.
5=Steps are "nu" metal.
6=Most nobs from Grimsby are oafish, jailbait, backwards, incestious, narrow-minded gits who think that the only music that exists is in Kerrang! and made in the last 6 months.
7=Indie kids appreciate a wide variety of music, retro-punk/retro-ska/blues/folk/prog rock/electronica(not Alice Deejay)/80s electro-pop - pretty much anything orignal, alternative, or on an indie label. Check out Fierce Panda, Rough Trade, Creation, Infectious, Fiction, Zomba records, etc.
8=I am aware that I'm being arrogant and eletist - it is 'tongue-in-cheek'.
9=Indie can rock too.

Aereogramme, Bauhaus, Cure, Depeche Mode, easyworld, Einsturzende Neubauten, Forum Theatre, Garbage, House of Love, Idlewild, Joy Division, Kula Shaker, Lowgold, Mansun, New Order, One Piece Jigsaw, Placebo, Queensrych, Radiohead, Smiths, Somewhere Outside New York, The the, U2, Velvet Underground, Verve, Paul Weller, X-Ray Specs, Neil Young, Frank Zappa.....

This is not by any means a definitive list, its just to show you chain-wearing skater punk greebos (or whatever the fuck you call yourselves now) that there is more to life than Limp 182, Linkin Bizshit, SumKnot, and Corn 41.

i totally agree, i liked indie (as in what is now indie bands, not alternative) before i got into rock, metal and punk.

indie is real cool and i like alot of those bands you mentioned there.
and you are right, a lot of it does rock. but do songs really HAVE to rock? if they are good songs they are good songs anyway?

newkid, if that really is your real name.... slightly too antagonistic, but got the point across very well, and i like the way you slipped Somewhere outside new york in there too. Classic.
Your signature too, isn't that one of your lyrics, from the 'I don't want to sound pretentious....' song. I'm so cool. It has to be said though, elitist is and always will be elitist, no matter how much you try, but i guess it's taking it to another level if you're that eletist, that ordinary elitists can fuck off. Magic.

You got a good point across but you make it sound very pretentious and elitism is the worst thing that ever happened to music. lots of people listeln to nu metal because they like it and its their way of life, not because kerrang told them to. music is about listelning to something you enjoy not having a stranger record collection.
To tell the truth, hostboard itself shows that people in the grimsby area arent as narrow minded as youve made them out to be.
But you know your beans about the whole musci thang and i like it.
